Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager – Venue Team

Henderson Engineers is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers within our Venue sector. The role drives technical excellence, operational efficiency, and staff development while ensuring high‑quality project delivery.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural engineering preferred;
    High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive engineering experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering design, A&E industry codes, design guides, and standards.
  • Proficient knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.
  • Proficient knowledge of BIM modeling, markup, annotation, workflow, and task management applications.
  • High emotional intelligence, empathy, and constructive performance conversation skills.
  • High technical aptitude and ability to train others on systems.
  • Proven track record of developing high‑performing teams, aligning with organizational goals, and fostering collaboration.
  • Proven track record of translating vision into action and culture into practice.
  • Experience championing growth through mentorship and cultivating future leaders.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills at all levels.
  • Effective critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Team oriented, collaborative, and able to work independently as needed.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead a coaching culture across technical staff through goal setting, alignment, and succession planning.
  • Build strong leadership teams and support engagement across multiple levels.
  • Oversee performance management, set expectations for Engineering Managers, and monitor sector trends.
  • Collaborate with sector leadership on business planning, capacity, forecasting, and staffing.
  • Cultivate psychological safety and inclusion, leading through trust.
  • Ensure discipline‑specific communication translates strategy into clear expectations.
  • Act as a career coach, providing feedback and guidance for skill progression.
  • Practice effective employee relations and personnel management.
  • Provide technical guidance and leverage engineering judgment to solve complex challenges.
Quality Assurance
  • Manage application of quality strategies and ensure standards are met.
  • Apply quality assurance tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance engineering processes and operational excellence.
  • Champion continuous improvement, adopting advanced technologies.
  • Support design and implementation of process improvements, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Sector Operations
  • Work with sector leadership on resource allocation and staff assignment.
  • Monitor earned value generation and recommend tools for accurate monitoring.
  • Ensure feedback loops on engineering initiatives, staffing, and KPIs function smoothly.
  • Serve as a consultant on technical production staff interviews.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering leadership to enforce technical processes.
  • Manage employee performance, operational needs, evaluations, development, discipline, timesheets, etc.
Professional Engineer & Engineer of Record (when applicable)
  • Perform to a higher standard associated with a PE license and EOR responsibilities.
  • Possibly serve as an Engineer of Record, overseeing signing and sealing of projects.
