Job Description
The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- This role supports specimen processing, analysis, result reporting, quality control, and adherence to safety and compliance guidelines while maintaining patient confidentiality and laboratory excellence.
- Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing.
- Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance practices.
- Ability to work with multiple computer systems.
- Understanding of laboratory safety and compliance guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing preferred.
- Clinical laboratory experience required for candidates with Chemistry or Biology degrees.
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures and departmental SOPs.
- Review and release test results accurately and timely.
- Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document all related activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
- Identify testing or system issues, take corrective action, or notify senior staff as required.
- Document all corrective actions when performance deviates from established standards.
- Report critical or priority results according to departmental procedures.
- Maintain complete testing records and general department appearance.
- Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled and tracked.
- Participate in training, safety sessions, inspections, and departmental meetings.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good computer proficiency.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and compliance standards.
- Degree in Medical Technology, Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Biology, or equivalent qualification.
- Eligibility for or possession of national certification as MT or MLT from a recognized organization.
- Required licensure as applicable.
