Smith & Loveless is united under one cause: “protecting water. Protecting people.” We are seeking a Network Administrator I to partner with our experienced Information Systems team in this environmentally focused industry.
The Network Administrator I provides administration and technical support on IT infrastructure including networking, servers, telecommunications, application software, and end user devices. Researches, builds, configures, deploys, and maintains various types of hardware and software. Provides support and assistance to other team members and helps foster a positive work culture to maximize team performance and effectively achieve team goals. Focuses on following company standards and policies while implementing best practices regarding system security, monitoring, availability, and performance.
Creates and maintains detailed documentation on systems from the implementation phase through maintenance and decommission. This position requires understanding of Company operations and objectives and the proactive management of their assigned IT infrastructure responsibilities. Strong troubleshooting skills, flexibility, and resourcefulness are highly desired traits. This position requires effective problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify pragmatic solutions. Solutions need to be implemented on time and within budgetary, security, and technical constraints.
This role requires strong communication, documentation, and time‑management skills.
- Provides support of main and remote facility networks, server infrastructure, storage systems, backup and recovery, and Windows and Linux based application environments.
- Implements security measures to protect network systems and data.
- Administers network switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure. Needs to have a solid understanding of IP networks inclusive of IP network segmentation, virtual private networks, DNS, DHCP, IP routing, fault tolerance, and security.
- Performs troubleshooting and root cause analysis on network and server issues and reports findings.
- Researches, plans, and proactively manages firmware and software updates, including major code upgrades and security patches, for IT infrastructure to ensure systems are kept current, manageable, and secure.
- Administers and maintains assigned IT services and systems, such as directory services, telephony, email, backup, security applications, and physical security systems.
- Develops IT procedures and build documents, contributes to disaster recovery and business continuity efforts.
- Administers company web servers and assists web developers as needed.
- Provides support to team members on Windows and Linux servers, Windows workstations, and other network devices and services such as wireless, printing, scanning, and VOIP telephony.
- Proactively ensures core IT systems are stable, available, and performing well.
- Creates and maintains detailed technical documentation of existing and new systems including network diagrams, build documents, inventory of installed hardware and software, and related licensing.
- Stays current with technology and keeps skillset relevant.
- Provides accurate and timely status updates on work being performed.
- Seeks out opportunities to improve security, end user efficiency, customer service, and reduce costs.
- Completes assigned tasks and projects successfully on time and within budgetary and technical constraints.
- Creates and maintains documentation required for other team members to backup this position.
- Provides coverage and acts as a backup when other team members are unavailable.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
- An Associate’s degree will be considered with a relevant, progressive work history and a demonstrated ability to communicate at a high level, verbally and written.
