The Physical Tester I receives, processes, and maintains records on laboratory samples. This position performs physical tests on aggregates, concrete, cement, lime, and associated materials. The position maintains the equipment and performs janitorial duties.
Responsibilities- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Perform routine physical tests on concrete, aggregates, cement, masonry mortars, lime, and other materials; maintain records and equipment, calculate test results, and maintain proficiency in testing techniques and procedures.
- Conduct the necessary sample preparations of specimens by drying, crushing/grinding, sieving, coring, sawing, capping, or applying other designated procedures to the samples.
- Receive and maintain records on laboratory samples and supplies; maintain storage areas for samples and supplies.
- Conduct lab maintenance as well as janitorial duties as assigned.
- Assume responsibility for proper use, care, and maintenance of instruments, equipment, and vehicles when assigned for use.
- Gain certification in ACI Field Testing Technician – Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, and Aggregate Testing Technician.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
- Minimum High School or GED.
- Within one year, obtain or be able to obtain ACI Strength Testing Technician or ACI Aggregate Testing Technician (preferred).
- Minimum 1 year of experience with ACI concrete testing procedures (preferred).
- Demonstrates a high commitment to quality.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and guidelines involved in conducting physical tests.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite and computer applications.
