Smith & Loveless is dedicated to protecting water and people. We are seeking a Mechanical Assembler / Pipefitter – 2nd Shift to partner with our experienced production team. The role involves layout, cutting, fitting, sub‑assembling, and installing piping and equipment primarily in wastewater pumping systems. This is a second‑shift position, 4:00 pm to 12:30 am with a dinner period.

• Observe all safety rules and keep work area clean and orderly.
• Follow verbal instructions, general assembly and piping layouts, blueprints, sketches, and bills of material.
• Check parts for identification and secure materials.
• Layout valves, gauges, fittings, etc. per factory order and drawing.
• Use overhead cranes to move product safely.
• Read tape measure for proper cuts and fittings.
• Cut pipe and tubing to correct length with a band saw or pipe cutter.
• Thread pipe with hand or power tools.
• Assemble pipe, fittings, valves, etc. according to instructions and good practice.
• Install relief valves, pressure switches, gauges, etc.
• Install assemblies and components such as air compressors, pumps, and motors.
• Assemble pumps and comminutors.
• Perform final assembly when needed.
• Report abnormal conditions of equipment to supervision.
• Other duties as assigned by the Second Shift Supervisor.
• Keep work area neat and clean.

• High school diploma or equivalent; preferred.
• 1 year of mechanical assembly experience.
• Experience using band saw, cutting torch, electric drill, soldering torch, tube cutters, hoist, pipe reamer, and various small tools.
• Pass a background check.
• Read, write, and communicate clearly.

Required to sit, stand, and walk. Use hands to feel objects, tools, or controls. Frequent stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Reach with hands and arms. Talk and hear consistently. Occasionally lift, carry, or drag up to 100 pounds. Use appropriate PPE including eyeglasses, earplugs, and steel‑toe shoes. Ability to ascend and descend two flights of stairs.
