The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for outdoor Head Lifeguards
. This position is a great opportunity to gain customer service and teamwork skills while serving the community at one of our four facilities:

  • Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center: 8801 Greenway Ln

Hiring Timeline:
Applications are currently being accepted. The hiring process will begin in December
, with start dates in spring
. Applicants will be contacted starting the first week of December about next steps in the hiring process.
Interviews will take place throughout January and February
, with final selections made before the start of the season.

Schedule:
This position requires weekday, weekend, and holiday availability. Applicants will provide their availability (specific days and hours) during the application process, which will be reviewed as part of the hiring decision.

Position Summary:
The Head Lifeguard oversees the daily operation of the City’s outdoor swimming pools, including preparation, daily operation, and seasonal closure. This role is responsible for supervising and training lifeguards, ensuring safety protocols are followed, conducting maintenance checks, and maintaining accurate records.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 17 years old with two years of lifeguard experience, including swim lesson instruction.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications required.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory credit history required.

Starting Rate of Pay is $16.50 per hour with annual raises.

Environmental and Physical Factors: This position requires frequent exposure to sun, wind, heat, humidity, weather, confined spaces, and noise levels typical of an aquatic facility. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and reach with hands and fingers; occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Good manual dexterity, body flexibility, multi-limb coordination, and visual acuity are essential. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successfully passing a drug screen. A background check is required for applicants aged 18 and older.
