Fire Alarm Technician
Primary Role: Responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, inspection and maintenance of electrical fire alarm systems. The technician is accountable for ensuring systems operate with minimum downtime and maximum performance, and for communicating system performance to the customer.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications and schematics.
- Supervise and inspect the installation of equipment to meet customer specifications.
- Perform all tasks required to completely install fire alarm systems, including engineering review, cable installation, device mounting, wiring devices and control panels, and programming/testing equipment.
- Use hand and power tools for installation and maintenance activities.
- Continuously learn new products, upgrades and software related to fire and security systems.
- Evaluate and diagnose equipment requiring service; identify and troubleshoot problems.
- Provide specific solutions and cost‑efficient recommendations to return equipment to working order.
- Assist with preventive maintenance of customer equipment.
- Maintain accurate tracking on time sheets and service/installation tickets.
- Comply fully with company and customer safety programs.
- Carry out additional duties as required or assigned by management.
- At least five (5) years’ experience in testing, maintenance, and service of fire alarm systems.
- Experience with access control systems and CCTV is a plus.
- Minimum background as an apprentice electrician or low‑voltage technician; experience installing fire alarm, CCTV, and access control components.
- Proficient with software applications, communication technologies, and lock‑hardware applications.
- Leadership experience instructing installation assistants.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer‑service communication skills.
- High school graduate required.
- NICET certification preferred.
- Basic English proficiency and basic math functions.
- Ability to read CAD‑generated prints, building blueprints, and riser diagrams.
- Solid grasp of basic electronics/electrical theory; formal instruction preferred.
- Proficiency with PC and basic engineering and construction knowledge.
- Factory training (preferred).
- Knowledge of applicable codes (NICET, NFPA, etc.)
Some out‑of‑town travel may be required.

- Planning, organizing, and implementing skills for project delivery by due date.
- Ability to handle stressful situations effectively.
- Valid and current driver’s license.
- Stand, walk, climb, sit and use hands and fingers for the duration of work.
- Ascend, descend, and work on ladders up to 30 feet and higher.
- Light lifting up to 50 lbs required.
- Reach, grasp, and carry activities required.
- Noise level usually moderate.
- Outdoor activities subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
- Operate mobile work platforms and articulated man lifts after receiving applicable training/certification.
