Data Center Facilities Technician, Mechanical
Google is looking for a skilled technician to join our AI and Infrastructure team. This role is not eligible for U.S. immigration sponsorship.
Minimum Qualifications- Associate’s degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field.
- 5 years of Mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
- Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 lbs of equipment and use OSHA standard safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools, and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and work rotations/shifts.
- 5 years of experience maintaining mechanical/cooling distribution systems or in a construction/technical environment.
- Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems used in a data center environment (e.g., Chillers, Air handling units, pumps, and CRAC/CRAH units).
- Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting using standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.
The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor, and maintain physical facility conditions, including heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution, and control systems. You will help inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems such as piping and non‑critical electrical or mechanical components.
As a Facilities Technician, you will use your expertise to reduce operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency, ensuring environmental and safety standards, and managing performance issues and outages to minimize recovery time.
Our U.S. base salary range for this full‑time position is $87,000‑$125,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
Responsibilities- Inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems such as piping and mechanical system components.
- Assist other technicians by reading blueprints/schematics, touring systems, and assessing their working order.
- Manage uptime and maintenance of water pumps, treatment systems, HVAC, and control and monitoring systems.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
- Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment and systems into the facilities infrastructure.
