Purpose of PositionTo provide outstanding customer service to the members of Blue Ridge Energy by constructing, operating, maintaining and repairing the cooperative's overhead and underground electric utility distribution and transmission power lines and their associated equipment (fuses, OCRs, OCBs, transformers, poles, and other pole/line hardware, etc.) and to restore electric service promptly, safely, and efficiently when interrupted regardless of time of day, night, or weather conditions.
AboutThe Role
We're looking for a safety-minded, motivated individual to join our Caldwell team as an Apprentice Line Technician I. This role is the starting point in a structured apprentice program designed to build your knowledge of electric utility distribution systems from the ground up. Throughout the first year, you'll work closely with experienced crews to build foundational knowledge and hands‑on skills in a safe, supportive environment.
YourResponsibilities Will Include
- Assisting with overhead (OH) and underground (URD) line construction on de-energized systems
- Framing poles, installing anchors and guys, and clearing right-of-way
- Learning proper care, use, and maintenance of tools, materials, and equipment
- Supporting service and transformer installations on non-energized poles and systems
- Participating in training for CPR, first aid, pole-top and bucket rescue, and safe work practices
- Beginning to climb poles under supervision in training scenarios and on cold poles
- Practicing safe operation of power tools and personal protective equipment
- Learning basic electrical theory, distribution system layouts, and grounding
- Gaining familiarity with staking sheets, material tickets, and cooperative rate structures
- Willingness to learn and work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to follow safety practices and instructions precisely
- Physical ability to perform manual labor and climb utility poles
- Strong teamwork, communication, and work ethic
- (Preferred) Prior experience in electrical utility work or vocational training
- Candidate must have a positive attitude toward the delivery of the highest level of service possible to Blue Ridge members.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must reside within 30 minutes of the district location.
- Must have a current, valid commercial driver's license at all times and a safe driving record.
- Must have current D.O.T. physical exam (continuously).
- Must pass, on a continuing basis, all required drug screens and tests.
- Must be able to work overtime and on-call.

Salary: $28.54 - $31.14 per hour
