Leidos is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to support and maintain the Service Now IT service management tool for a large organisation. The role requires hands‑on administration, optimisation and disaster recovery planning to ensure database stability, security and performance. The position requires daily in‑office presence.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical support for Maria
DB (MySQL) databases, ensuring optimal performance and availability. - Implement regular database backups to allow for efficient data recovery in the event of system failures.
- Monitor system performance and identify bottlenecks affecting database efficiency and data integrity.
- Troubleshoot database‑related incidents and implement proactive solutions to minimize downtime.
- Monitor and forecast database storage and performance needs, ensuring scalability.
- Plan and execute major database upgrades and periodic patching to maintain system stability.
- Configure and manage database logs for integration into a SIEM solution for monitoring and security compliance.
- Monitor, maintain and orchestrate manual failover and failback procedures to maintain uptime.
- Develop scripts using SQL, Bash or Python to automate database maintenance and monitoring tasks.
- Maintain database build and upgrade documentation, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for the team.
- Assist testing teams with execution of test scripts for database validation and performance assessment.
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator (DBA).
- Expertise in Maria
DB or other relational databases (MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server). - Experience with backup and disaster recovery strategies for databases.
- Knowledge of database tuning, indexing and query optimisation.
- Understanding of networking protocols relevant to databases (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing).
- Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) tools, preferably Service Now.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Knowledge of ITIL/ITSM principles and best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with security frameworks such as CIS benchmarks or ISO 27001.
- Hands‑on experience with high availability clustering and replication.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies.
- Experience with automated patch management in database environments.
- Service Now environment experience.
- Experience of transitioning systems to service.
