Position

High School Science Teacher – Full‑time, ten‑month position.

Essential Functions
  • Relate professionally to and collaborate with co‑workers, students, and community members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and use technology effectively to complete tasks.
  • Organize, supervise, coordinate, and establish priorities of tasks.
  • Work independently in the absence of detailed instructions and follow complex oral and/or written instructions.
  • Communicate courteously and tactfully with staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Apply excellent time‑management skills, take initiative, and make decisions within assigned responsibilities in a fast‑paced professional environment.
  • Possess knowledge of the programs, policies, and procedures of the St. Mary’s County Public School System.
  • Plan and coordinate instructional programs in accordance with the current curriculum provided by the Maryland State Department of Education and the SMCPS scope and sequence.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate instructional programs aligned with current curriculum.
  • Provide guidance to students to promote educational development and welfare.
  • Direct and evaluate student learning experiences.
  • Ensure safety of school property and supervise student activity on school property.
  • Participate in co‑curricular activities and maintain accurate student attendance records.
  • Assist students with learning activities and maintain current lesson plans.
  • Cooperate with students and staff and maintain open lines of communication with students, staff, and parents.
  • Take part in professional development activities and perform other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Preferred: Eligibility for professional certification/licensure of the appropriate grade and/or content.
Employment Terms
  • Term of Employment:
    Full‑time, ten‑month position.
  • Salary Grade Range:
    Based on the EASMC Teacher Career Ladder for ten‑month employees.
  • Bargaining Unit Eligibility: EASMC.
