General Summary of Position
Professional care provider who assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care of patients from admission through discharge. In collaboration with patients and families provides theory-based professional nursing care and coordinates care delivery with the interdisciplinary team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, safety standards, and Med Star SPIRIT Values.
- Collects and analyzes significant patient information pertaining to physical, psychological, socio-cultural, economic, spiritual, and lifestyle behaviors and efficiently leverages available technology.
- Functions autonomously providing relationship-based care that promotes continuous, consistent, efficient, and accountable delivery of nursing care using the nursing process.
- Identifies current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations, critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status, and plans appropriate interventions.
- Incorporates evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery with a focus on quality and safety.
- Serves as a patient advocate by independently communicating clinical concerns, including ethical decisions, in a timely manner to other interdisciplinary team members.
- Applies the nurse practice act and demonstrates understanding of universal ethical principles.
- Individualizes patient care plans focusing on short‑ and long‑range goals and effectively utilizes teaching resources to meet learning needs.
- Communicates patient information clearly and accurately in verbal and written formats.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment; identifies patient safety issues and acts accordingly.
- Demonstrates effective leadership behaviours and delegates tasks appropriately.
- Utilizes problem identification and resolution skills to address clinical concerns.
- Evaluates patient response to treatment and revises interventions as necessary.
- Initiates and monitors discharge planning activities in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Identifies resources and strategies to enhance professional growth and commits to lifelong learning.
- Supports unit and organizational goals and participates in meetings, committees, and community outreach.
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality improvement teams.
- Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program (required); BSN preferred.
- If hired at associate level, must enroll in a BSN program within 12 months and complete within 4 years.
- 1–2 years RN experience (required).
- RN state licensure (required); CPR/BLS/NRP certification within 90 days (required).
- Additional specialty certifications may be required.
- Basic math, communication, and computer skills.
USD $32.00 - $47.79 per hour.
