Salary: $67,218 plus a $3.00/hr shift differential for hours worked between 5:00pm-7:00am
Main Purpose of JobDistrict Court Commissioners are judicial officers whose primary function includes reviewing applications for statement of charges by the public and police for the filing of criminal charges in the District Court. They determine probable cause for charges on police on‑view arrests, issue criminal summons or arrest warrants, supervise pre‑trial release, accept bail bond money and other surety, and serve in the capacity of considering civil petitions for interim peace and protective orders when the Circuit and District Courts are closed.
Commissioners are often the first impression of the court for the public and business partners.
- Review applications for statement of charges; determine probable cause for criminal charges.
- Issue criminal summonses or arrest warrants based on findings.
- Determine pre‑trial release conditions and accept bail bonds.
- Consider civil petitions for interim peace orders and protective orders during closures.
- Advise arrested persons of their rights and provide court documents.
- Maintain day‑to‑day operations during inclement weather, emergencies, and agency closures.
- Work flexible shift schedules including day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- CPR certification (renewed every 24 months).
- NCIC CN5 certification for criminal record checks (renewed every 24 months).
- Flexible to 24/7 availability and willing to work various locations.
- Proficient in using a personal computer and efficient typing.
- Excellent interpersonal and professional demeanor.
- Ability to make decisions based on law and administrative regulations.
- Capable of performing all essential job functions.
