We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Latin Teacher who will inspire students to explore the language, literature, and legacy of the ancient world. Start date September 2026
PositionThe High School Latin Teacher will teach multiple levels of Latin, from introductory courses to advanced language and literature. The ideal candidate is a collaborative educator who engages students through interactive instruction, emphasizes the relevance of the classical world, and integrates language study with culture, history, and mythology.
Essential Functions- Teach Latin I–IV (and/or AP Latin, depending on enrollment and experience).
- Develop engaging, student-centered lessons aligned with departmental and school standards.
- Foster students’ understanding of classical civilization, Roman history, and mythology.
- Integrate reading, translation, and interpretive skills through authentic texts.
- Incorporate technology and innovative pedagogy to enhance student learning.
- Assess and document student progress using varied and authentic assessment methods.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and school initiatives.
- Communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues to support student growth.
- Develops and administers foreign language education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Develops student understanding and appreciation of the cultures and mores of countries where the language is the predominant or a major means of communication.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment, and maintains inventory records.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
