Specialist Podiatrist (Lead for Nail Surgery) ()

Substantive – Full Time, 37 hours per week. This post can be offered as a development post. Band 5 (Annex 21 during development), Salary Range £33,295 – £41,483 per annum. Band 6 – Salary Range £41,668 – £50,775 per annum. Distant Island Allowance £2,485 per annum. Relocation Assistance up to £8,000 is also available.

Location and Service Context

The post is based at Lerwick Health Centre, with other clinics held at Gilbert Bain Hospital, outlying health centres, domiciliary visits and care homes.

Role Overview

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Podiatrist to join our small team providing podiatric interventions to the population of Shetland. Alternatively, this post can be an exciting opportunity for recent graduates wishing to increase and develop the full range of clinical skills. Appointment at Band 5 will be for an initial period of supervision and mentorship, with progression to Band 6 under Annex 21, after which the post holder will work autonomously.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, develop and lead the nail surgery service.
  • Provide high‑quality care in general podiatry.
  • Work in specialist clinics, including MSK, diabetes and wound care.
  • Propose and implement policy and service developments.
  • Serve as a source of information, advice and education for the podiatry team and other health and social care staff.

There are excellent personal development opportunities and the post holder will be encouraged and supported in CPD and service improvement activities.

Working Hours

As from 01/04/2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. There will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
