Environmental Protection and Housing Officer

Contract Type:
Permanent (Full Time)

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Health Officer (EHO) or newly qualified/graduate EHO to join our dynamic Environmental Protection & Housing team. This is an exciting opportunity to protect public health, improve housing standards, and make a real difference to our communities.

Responsibilities

You will investigate and resolve a wide range of environmental health issues, including:

  • Housing complaints (private and social housing), illegal evictions, and poor housing conditions
  • Statutory nuisances, public health issues, and environmental protection matters
  • Pollution and air quality complaints
  • District inspections to identify risks and ensure compliance

You will use your knowledge of legislation to take appropriate action, including enforcement, legal proceedings, and working proactively with residents and partners to achieve positive outcomes.

The Experience you will bring

You will have a degree/diploma/MSc in Environmental Health (or working towards EHRB registration / newly qualified).

You will have a good understanding of Environmental Health legislation across areas such as Housing, Environmental Protection and Public Health alongside the ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and guidance to real-world situations.

You will possess strong communication skills, able to explain complex issues clearly to a range of audiences. You will require experience in enforcement work, including inspections, investigations, and case preparation. Confident in gathering evidence, interviewing (including PACE where appropriate), and problem‑solving is also a key requirement of the position.

Willing and able to work independently you will also contribute as part of a wider team.
