Position start:
The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a Continuing Instructor position to begin as early as July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Hiring salary will range from $64,745 to $75,000
, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time teaching position at the rank of Instructor III.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. (or be ABD with an expected defense date) in Philosophy or a closely related field. The ability to teach a broad range of courses, especially introductory courses including sections of Introduction to Philosophy, is required. The ability to teach Non-Western philosophy will be considered an asset. The successful applicant will also demonstrate interest in advising undergraduate students, coordinating the undergraduate program, and engaging in service activities that benefit undergraduates and support or expand the department’s offerings for undergraduates.

Our Department: The Department of Philosophy has strengths in Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Law, Logic, Argumentation Theory, Pragmatism, Feminist Philosophy, Social and Political Philosophy, Ethics, and the History of Philosophy. The department hosts the Critical Thinking and Civic Engagement Lab and maintains an active student culture with a yearly undergraduate conference, an ethics bowl team, and a philosophy club.

- A teaching dossier including: (a) a statement of teaching philosophy; (b) a statement outlining contributions to inclusive teaching practices; (c) evidence of teaching effectiveness; (d) two sample course syllabi (one addressing Introduction to Philosophy);
- A writing sample of no more than 25 pages (or one published article);
- Names and contact information of three references.
