Position Information Job Title Sessional Instructors - School of Environmental Sciences Appointment Type Sessional Position Dates Sep 2024 - Apr 2025 Hours per week/FTE Varies About the Position Reporting to Associate Dean of the Centre, the successful candidate will be responsible for instruction, curriculum development, and for fostering relationships with the broader Resource Enforcement industry. Applicants must have a strong commitment to effective teaching and possess a demonstrated ability, as well as keen interest to lead field experiences for students.

The instructor would ensure an inclusive learning environment. Instructor training will be provided through the New Instructor Training Program.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, innovative, and supportive participant within the School of Environmental Sciences program and within the Centre for Technology, Environment & Design. The successful applicant must demonstrate:

3) interest and participation in the goals and objectives of the School of Environmental Sciences, and
4) commitment to Lethbridge College, overall. Position Details The successful candidate will fulfill responsibilities such as the preparation and teaching of multiple sections, and demonstrate commitment to professional development, as well as the following:
  • Be self-motivated and able to work positively in a team environment is a must.
  • Engage as a member of a larger faculty team in the development and implementation of course related or curricular initiatives.
  • Design instructional materials, presentations, demonstrations.
  • Guide and mentor students in their individual project work, providing feedback.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, fostering collaboration, creativity, and exploration among students.
  • Strong instructional and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to students of varying skill levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Courses The Natural Resource Compliance diploma program and the Conservation Enforcement degree program at Lethbridge College are industry-leading and have been developed with agency stakeholders. Instructors lead students through experience and example, as they instill knowledge and skills through lecture, lab, and field experiences. Graduates of the program are eligible for a variety of enforcement jobs from inspector to investigator natural resource agencies and traditional policing.
    FALL 2024 (Sept to Dec 2024):
  • CEN 2259 Operational Procedures Lecture and Labs (9 hours per week for 15 weeks)
  • CEN 3357 Environmental Compliance Techniques (3 hours per week for 15 weeks)
  • ENV 2265 Parks and Recreation Operations Labs (3 X 2 hours per week for 15 weeks)
  • CEN 3354 Administrative Procedures (3 hours per week for 15 weeks)
  • LAW 1150 Introduction to Environmental Law (3 hours per week for 15 weeks)
  • WINTER 2025 (Jan to April 2025):
  • CEN 2269 Field Investigation Techniques Lab (3 X 2 hours per week for 15 weeks)

    Required Qualifications
  • Previous experience in the natural resource enforcement field including Fish & Wildlife, Conservation, Fisheries, Environmental and Wildlife Officers, will be an asset
  • Minimum educational background is a bachelor’s degree in conservation enforcement or closely related discipline in combination with significant industry experience
  • Experience in the field is a must
  • Self-motivated and able to work positively in a team environment is a must
