The Summer Camp Coordinator will assist with the planning and delivery of quality nature immersion programming for children, families and adults within our rural region of New Brunswick; with a goal to support the production of at least 4 nature camp summer experiences; multi-day weekly summer camps, overnight youth and teen camps and rewilding adult camps. This role will include but not limited to bringing greater awareness and connection to the environment through experiential games, bushcraft, nature hikes and camping on our extensive trail and infrastructure systems.

As well as assisting with managing intern staff (such as junior councilors) who will carry out the camps with the assistant and coordinator’s oversight.

In addition to the main activities above, the camp coordinator will give tours of the KAN Centre and manage the resource library and learning supplies within, assist with the supervision of the care of the centre grounds, trails, gardens and tree nurseries and assist with the production of our newsletters and updates to the website and social media sites of the organization.

This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, to be eligible for this position you must be between the age of 15-30, have a valid Social Insurance Number, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Job Duties
  • Assist in the planning and facilitate nature-based programming
  • Oversee the health and well-being of all program participants
  • Communicate professionally with parents and staff
  • Perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to gardening, cleaning and cooking when possible
Assets
  • Camp leader/teaching experience
  • Familiarity with digital tools and programs such as spreadsheets and social media platforms

Requirements
  • Experience working with groups of children
  • An affinity for the natural world
  • Must have the ability to receive and follow direction
  • A clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening done within the past 12 months
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • Must be physically able to assist children as required – (e.g. lifting, getting up and down from the floor frequently)
  • Must be prepared to dress appropriately for weather and conditions in order to be comfortable outside for long periods of time and at all times of the year (i.e., rain paints, bug jacket, etc.)
  • The ability to provide outstanding customer service to children and parents
  • Strong communication skills via text, phone, and email
