About the Position

The Centre for Trades and Technologies is seeking a dedicated, highly motivated, and well‑organized individual with exceptional communication skills to join our instructional team within the Crooks School of Transportation. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering instruction in both Apprenticeship and College‑level programs, contributing to a collaborative and supportive teaching environment.

This role requires active participation in curriculum development, classroom and shop instruction, and the ongoing evaluation of student progress. The ability to work effectively as part of a team is essential, as the position involves close collaboration with colleagues, program coordinators, and support staff to ensure the delivery of high‑quality education and training.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver classroom and lab instruction on automotive repair and maintenance in accordance with approved curriculum and industry standards.
  • Prepare and develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that align with program objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrate and supervise practical tasks such as automatic transmission repair, electrical diagnostics, fuel systems, emissions, and ignition systems, ensuring students gain hands‑on, industry‑relevant experience.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback, academic support, and mentorship to foster student success.
  • Ensure a safe and organized learning environment by promoting and enforcing shop safety standards and the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff as part of a dynamic instructional team to support student learning, enhance program delivery, and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Remain current with emerging industry trends, technologies, and best practices to ensure instruction reflects real‑world applications.
  • Actively participate in curriculum development, review, and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain program quality and relevance.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, grades, evaluations, and other required documentation in accordance with institutional policies.
Required Qualifications
  • Red Seal Certification as an Automotive Service Technician (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience working as an Automotive Service Technician.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and current automotive technologies.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and aptitude to learn new software applications and systems.
  • Self‑motivated and ability to work positively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Dual certification or additional certification in Agriculture Equipment Technician, Heavy Equipment Service Technician, and/or Parts Technician trade(s).
  • Experience with automotive automatic transmissions, EV technology, and advanced electrical diagnosis and repair.
  • Experience with automotive suspension and steering systems, brake systems, clutches, differentials, A/C systems and ignition systems.
  • Previous formal and/or informal teaching experience is considered an asset.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary commensurate with education and experience according to the current Faculty Collective Agreement.
