Job Summary

The Summer Camp Coordinator serves the mission of the YMCA of Lethbridge at the Cor Van Raay YMCA by planning and supporting the Summer Camp counsellors, volunteers, and overall success of the association. The main goals of this position are:

  • Collaborating with the Director of Community Programs to align and complete strategic goals set by the YMCA of Lethbridge for summer camp programming and day‑to‑day operations
  • Supporting, coaching, and evaluating summer camp attendants
  • Actively participating in de‑escalation and resolution of camp issues
  • Remuneration: $21.00 per hour
  • Contract:

    3.5 month, beginning in May

  • YMCA of Lethbridge summer camp staff and volunteers
Nature & Scope
  • Coordinating with summer staff to develop and implement quality age‑appropriate programming
  • Actively supporting and leading YMCA summer programming for at least 30‑35 hr./week
  • Participating in the onboarding, coaching, and growth of summer camp staff
  • Ensuring program quality is of the utmost quality through adequate supervision, regular evaluations/check‑ins, involvement, and review of data with the Senior Community Programs Manager
  • Acting as a leader in health and safety, ensuring the highest level of standards are maintained within summer camp
  • Fostering and developing a strong culture and sense of community within summer camp operations with staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrating and championing ‘SAM Standards’ daily throughout the facility
  • Attending, supporting, and participating in all required YMCA training, recertifications, and in‑service trainings
Physical Demands
  • This position involves prolonged physical activity
  • This position involves active instruction of YMCA summer camp programming
  • This position involves the ability to lift 20 kg
  • This position involves working a flexible schedule with minimal additional time off
Qualifications
  • 2 – 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Post‑secondary education is preferred (Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Teaching, or related field/program)
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C certifications
  • Exceptional customer service and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience supporting and developing organized camp events
  • Evidence of an acceptable Police Information Check
  • Evidence of an acceptable Child Intervention Check
  • Three professional references required
