EDUCATION ASSISTANT S – St. Joseph School (Coaldale)

We are hiring two temporary 28.0 hour per week Education Assistants to work eph School in Coaldale. These assignments will commence August 25, 2026 and terminate June 25, 2027. The Education Assistant provides support to children with a wide range of needs in the learning environment under the direction and supervision of the Inclusive Education Lead, the classroom teacher, and the principal.

The role may involve working with students who have complex sensory needs, exhibit challenging behaviours, use augmented and alternative communication systems, and may require assistance with toileting and other personal care tasks. The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the role and maintain confidentiality of all aspects of the school community. Through a collaborative team-based structure the Education Assistant will carry out tasks as assigned by both the daily and program supervisors.

• Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent.
• Special consideration will be given to candidates who have completed the Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness.

• At least one-year experience working with students with special programming needs.

• First Aid training.
• Knowledge of ASL is considered an asset.
• Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments Training (SIVA) Certificate.
• Training and experience with augmentative communication systems.
• Experience working on academic goals with students who have multiple barriers.

• Understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality of all aspects of the school community.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Willingness to participate in new learning opportunities.
• Ability to take responsibility for individual student needs.
• Ability to contribute in a collaborative team-based learning structure.
