Education Assistant

We are looking to hire two temporary Education Assistants to work at Children of St. Martha School in Lethbridge. These assignments commence August 25, 2026 and terminate June 25, 2027. These positions are covered by the CUPE 1825 Support Staff collective agreement. Please quote Posting #4041016.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support to children with a wide range of needs in the learning environment under the direction and supervision of the Inclusive Education Lead, the classroom teacher, and the principal.
  • Assist students who have complex sensory needs, exhibit challenging behaviours, use augmented and alternative communication systems, and may require assistance with toileting and other personal care tasks.
  • Meet the physical demands of the role to actively engage students in all aspects of their educational program.
  • Maintain confidentiality for all aspects of the school community.
  • Collaborate within a team‑based structure to carry out tasks assigned by daily and program supervisors.
Education
  • Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma, or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who have completed the Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
Work Experience
  • At least one year of experience working with students with special programming needs.
Specialized Skills
  • First Aid training.
  • Knowing ASL is considered an asset.
  • Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments Training (SIVA) Certificate.
  • Training and experience with augmentative communication systems.
  • Experience working on academic goals with students who have multiple barriers.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Recognize the paramount importance of maintaining confidentiality within the school community.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to participate in new learning opportunities.
  • Ability to take responsibility for individual student needs.
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative, team‑based learning structure.
