EDUCATION ASSISTANT S – St. Patrick School (Taber)
This position is open to all internal and external candidates. Prior to employment, successful applicants must provide supporting documents as outlined on our New Employees page. We are hiring two temporary Education Assistants at 28.0 hours per week to work rick School in Taber. These assignments commence August 25, 2026 and terminate June 25, 2027. These positions are covered by the CUPE 1825 Support Staff collective agreement.

The Education Assistant provides support to children with a wide range of needs in the learning environment under the direction and supervision of the Inclusive Education Lead, the classroom teacher, and the principal. This role may involve working with students who have complex sensory needs, exhibit challenging behaviours, use augmented and alternative communication systems, and may require assistance with toileting and other personal care tasks.
Confidentiality is essential.
- Provide support to students with diverse learning needs under direction of the Inclusive Education Lead, classroom teacher, and principal.
- Assist with students who have complex sensory needs, challenging behaviours, or use augmentative and alternative communication systems.
- Support students with personal care tasks as required within the school setting.
- Contribute to collaborative, team-based planning and implementation of individual education programs.
Education
- Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent;
- Special consideration for Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness (link may be used for reference in the original posting).
Work Experience
- At least one year of experience working with students with special programming needs.
Specialized Skills
- First Aid training
- Knowing ASL is an asset
- SIVA (Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments) Certificate
- Training and experience with augmentative communication systems
- Experience working on academic goals with students who have multiple barriers
Interpersonal Skills
- Maintains confidentiality of all aspects of the school community
- Excellent communication skills
- Willing to participate in new learning opportunities
- Ability to take responsibility for individual student needs
- Ability to contribute in a collaborative team-based learning structure
The starting rate for this position is $25.26 per hour. The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division offers a 100% employer-paid comprehensive benefits package, supporting employee wellness and family needs.
