EDUCATION ASSISTANT
We are looking to hire two temporary 28.0 hour per week Education Assistants to work at Our Lady of the Assumption School in Lethbridge from August 25, 2026 to June 25, 2027. These positions are covered by the CUPE 1825 Support Staff collective agreement (Post #4041023).
The Education Assistant provides support to children with a wide range of needs in the learning environment under the direction and supervision of the Inclusive Education Lead, the classroom teacher, and the principal. This role may involve working with students who have complex sensory needs, exhibit challenging behaviours, use augmented and alternative communication systems, and may require assistance with toileting and other personal care tasks.
The successful candidate must meet the physical demands of the role and actively engage students in all aspects of their educational program. Confidentiality is of utmost importance in achieving the common good for all students. Through a collaborative team‑based structure, the Education Assistant will carry out tasks as assigned by both daily and program supervisors.
EDUCATION- Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent.
- Special consideration will be given to candidates who have completed the Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness.
- At least one‑year experience working with students with special programming needs.
- First Aid training.
- Knowledge of ASL considered an asset.
- Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments Training (SIVA) Certificate.
- Training and experience with augmentative communication systems.
- Experience working on academic goals with students who have multiple barriers.
- Understanding that it is of paramount importance to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of the school community.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to participate in new learning opportunities.
- Ability to take responsibility for individual student needs.
- Ability to contribute in a collaborative team‑based learning structure.
The starting rate for this position is $25.26 per hour. Holy Spirit Catholic School Division offers a 100% employer‑paid comprehensive benefit package supporting the wellness of employees and their families.
