Position Details Dr. Katharina Stevens is offering a full-time, 18-month Postdoctoral Fellowship in Argumentation Theory, with a start date of January 1 or July 1, 2027, to be carried out in person at the University of Lethbridge.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Philosophy or a closely related area, with a background in argumentation theory or a related area and will be interested in working on topics related to voice, silencing, or standing in argumentation.

This Fellowship offers the opportunity to gain significant experience in academic editing, as well as to engage in both research and teaching. The successful candidate will be a Postdoctoral Fellow with, and have the opportunity to engage in the activities of, the Critical Thinking and Civic Engagement ( CTCE ) Lab and the Department of Philosophy at the University of Lethbridge.

The

successful candidate will:
  • Be available to work in person, in Lethbridge, starting January 1 or July 1 2027 and continuing for the 18 months following that date.
  • Participate in the organization of a workshop on, and serve as one of three editors of a planned edited collection on the topic of, “Voice and Standing in Argumentation,” for which they will have an opportunity to contribute a chapter (subject to review).
  • Conduct their own research.
  • Teach one course per academic term (3 total).
  • Support the Informal Logic editorial team and copy-editing team.
  • Develop a special issue policy and a social media strategy for Informal Logic, to be presented to and discussed with the editorial team.
The Supervisor and/or University will offer:
  • A salary of $47,000.00 per year (1.5 that for the whole 18 months), inclusive of sessional teaching amounts.
  • The mentioned sessional teaching opportunities, subject to the University of Lethbridge faculty Association (ULFA) Academic Staff Collective Agreement.
  • Access to the services of the University (e.g. library, information technologies)
  • Office and meeting space on campus
  • Opportunities to present and discuss research and to participate in Lab and departmental events and activities.

  • Have fulfilled all degree requirements for their PhD before commencing the appointment, but no longer than five years prior to the start of the award (excepting career interruptions).
  • Not hold a permanent faculty position or a faculty position leading to permanency.
