Academic Aide

Position Information

Job Title Academic Aide Appointment Type Casual Position Dates October 13, 2026 - April 30, 2027 Hours per week/FTE 0-25

Reporting to the Manager, Student Academic Services, this position requires an energetic individual with strong communications skills to support students with disabilities and mental health concerns in a classroom (in person and/or virtually).

The Academic Aide duties include, but are not limited to:

• Attend class with student.
• Take notes (if required).
• Support students in understanding course content through review, test preparation, & strategies specific to course content.
• Use basic strategies to support students who have complex behavioural needs (as identified and recommended by Accessibility Services).
• Support students in upholding classroom expectations for each class they attend.
• Aides may be expected to assist students with navigating in the blended learning environment (attend classes through video conference).
• In person or virtual attendance is dependent on the academic programming in each program area.

• Experience working with adult learners with disabilities from a variety of backgrounds.
• Proficiency in technology is a necessity.
• Successful candidates must be willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.

• Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational skill to participate effectively in a learning environment with assigned students.
• Experience working in an educational environment (post-secondary or high school preferred).
• Educational Assistant (EA) graduates preferred.
