WORK LOCATION/OFFICE: Position may be based out of our Airdrie (highland park), High River, or Coaldale locations.
HOURLY WAGE: $25.70
STATUS: 30 Temp - Hourly

Fortis Alberta is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Design Student to join our Regional Projects team for the summer work term.
This role is ideal for a student who enjoys problem solving, values safety, and thrives in both independent and team environments. As a Design Student, you will gain hands‑on exposure to electrical design, project data systems, and field‑related tasks, all while providing exceptional customer and stakeholder support.
This opportunity offers meaningful experience within utility operations and a strong foundation for future technical roles!
Job Description- Support the development of electrical project scope and design.
- Work with project data using internal systems and project management tools.
- Participate in training related to staking and locating new services.
- Apply standards, codes, and engineering policies to check design requirements.
- Use computer software to complete technical calculations and validate design work.
- Perform risk and hazard assessments to support safe project execution.
- Communicate needs and updates with customer projects.
- Currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering Technology diploma program and returning to full‑time studies.
- Experience using AutoCAD is an asset.
- Strong motivation and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Demonstrated customer service skills when interacting with stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities with close attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook.
- Valid Alberta driver’s class 5 license in good standing.
- Temporary student role.
- Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.
- Position may be based out of our Airdrie (highland park), High River, or Coaldale locations.
- All successful candidates will be subject to an education verification, criminal background check and must provide references.
- Drug and Alcohol testing is required for this safety sensitive role.
