Your OpportunityStantec’s Power team in western Canada currently offers opportunities for Electrical Engineers to work on HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects across North America. As part of a multi‑disciplinary team you’ll develop efficient and reliable substations, coordinate planning and design activities, and ensure project schedules and completion.
Key Responsibilities- Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, rigid and flexible bus, and lighting.
- Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plans, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, equipment specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, and design calculations.
- Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, and testing & commissioning.
- Provide technical support for procurement, construction, and commissioning.
- Assist in preparing proposals, project plans and estimates.
- Mentor and support junior engineers.
- Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve technical issues.
- Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high‑quality engineering service.
- Conduct site visits to verify existing installations, define project scope, and provide construction site support.
- Drafting work may be required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
- Experience in PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, MathCAD is an asset.
- Field experience in commissioning and testing is an asset.
- Knowledge in Civil/Structural and P&C is an asset.
- Equipment engineering experience is an asset.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Micro Station.
- Effective interpersonal skills (written, verbal) to interact with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, sub‑consultants, and build client relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum 6 years of proven direct detailed design and engineering experience related to high‑voltage substations for utilities in North America.
- Professional Engineer registration (P.Eng) required.
Primary location:
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Typical office environment with computer work. Stantec offers a flexible hybrid model. Field work may include exposure to inclement weather.
Pay ranges are provided where required. Final compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible. Part‑time roles will be pro‑rated.
