We are currently recruiting for an experienced Building Automation Technician to join our team in Fort McMurray. The Building Automation Technician will be responsible for system installation, programming, BAS network infrastructure, sub-system troubleshooting and the Tier‑1 user interface. The colleague will adhere to and promote Convergint safe work practices on a consistent basis.
This is FIFO position with a rotating shift of 14/14 with 12 hour shift each day. You will be provided with camp accommodation for the duration of your shift.
MainJob Responsibilities General
- Provide technical support on Automation initiatives across site.
- Ensure regular open communication with the client’s facilities personnel, highlighting any problems or issues.
- Install and maintain/repair new and existing BAS equipment and components as required.
- Read & interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation requirements.
- Act as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times, thereby ensuring Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service.
- Diagnose BAS issues and probable causes, determine corrective action, repair system and/or system components from various manufacturers.
- Maintain BAS automation network and understand development concepts. Work with the client on adding new assets to their business LAN.
- Router management and interfacing with BAS systems.
- Understanding network switch operation and basic IP fundamentals on client LAN.
- Configuring IP address based on client IT provider allocation.
- Linking to Master device, adding device to Management tool and dashboard.
- Troubleshooting various router type operational issues.
- Provide automation support for Maintenance and Operations (HVAC, Auto, Elec, Plum, Ops)
- Is “hands‑on” with the network and facilities, working closely with other colleagues. Act as a technical resource for resolving field issues.
- Maintain Site Alert component integration on existing/future monitoring locations.
- Maintain all automation software, programs, and database backup locations.
- Understanding Eco Struxure design basics using pre-built system templates.
- Work in collaboration with business development colleagues to grow automation infrastructure.
- Consult with management/engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation & maintenance.
- Provides technical support to end users when applicable.
- Proactively seeks technical guidance from more experienced staff for difficult and unusual situations.
- Work with and advise the clients engineering personal on current system design and engineered solutions to system expansion.
- Provide redline markups and submit to clients engineering personal when required.
- Stay up to date with building automation software, engineering, and technology.
- Minimum of five years of previous, relevant field service experience in BAS required.
- HVAC, GAS A, Electrical or Instrumentation Ticket an asset.
- Diploma or degree in electronics, electrical or mechanical preferred.
- Relevant trade experience preferred.
- Experience with various products, Distech (ECP, ECL, ECY), INET, Schneider (AS-P, RPC, MP-C), Loytec, Echelon, Honeywell and Johnson Controls.
- Familiar with building automation communication protocols Lon Works, BACnet, Modbus, N2 and C-Bus.
- Product‑specific certifications preferred; industry‑specific certifications and/or licenses required.
- Eco Struxure SmartX Engineering.
- Eco Struxure Building Operation, Workstation System & Design.
- Lon Mark Certified Professional.
- Distech Applications and Controllers.
- BACnet Certifications.
- Advanced technical skills and experience related to Automation systems.
- A valid driver’s license and abstract is required.
- Strong programming skills and a proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Successfully communicate technical information to non‑technical people.
- Knowledge on instrumentation and control systems and the relation to industrial building automation systems.
