Overview

Our client is seeking a Corporate Controller to join their growing finance team in Halifax, NS. This position plays a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls and compliance with regulatory standards. The Controller will report to the Director of Finance and will be instrumental in enhancing financial processes, providing leadership to a small accounting team, and supporting the organization's growth in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

The Controller's responsibilities include managing and overseeing all accounting functions such as the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. They will ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end processes, develop and implement internal controls, and manage cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting processes. This role also involves overseeing construction-related accounting, reviewing commercial leasing activity, coordinating audits, and collaborating with operational leaders to provide financial insights for informed decision-making.

Additionally, the Controller will prepare and present financial reports to senior management.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a CPA designation or be near completion, along with over five years of progressive accounting experience, including in leadership roles. They should possess strong technical accounting skills, particularly related to Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), and experience in full-cycle accounting processes. A demonstrated ability in designing and implementing internal controls, leading small teams, and contributing to continuous improvement is essential.

Experience in real estate, construction, or property management accounting is an asset, as are excellent analytical and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with property management software are also advantageous for this position.
