Casual Custodians

Overview

Livingstone Range School Division is accepting applications for Casual Custodians. A Casual Custodian may be called to cover full-time or part-time absences, assist in projects, or cover extracurricular events such as tournaments that may happen in the evening or on weekends.

The Casual Custodian must be able to communicate and interact positively with the public, co-workers, staff, and administration to ensure all needs are addressed at the site. Casual Custodians must be able to work unsupervised. The daily work routine involves the use of various chemicals and may include physical demands such as lifting chairs, moving furniture or boxes of materials, cleaning equipment, and climbing stairs/ladders.

Typical duties of a Casual Custodian include but are not limited to:

• Cleaning thoroughly all washrooms, fixtures, and partitions
• Washing desks, counters, doors, windows, etc.
• Dusting all areas in the school
• Mopping, vacuuming, and waxing floors
• Securing Division buildings
• Garbage collection and removal
• Preventative maintenance – tightening furniture or changing light bulbs
• Snow and ice removal from walkways

This position reports to the Health and Safety Coordinator. The ability to work independently and secure the facilities is essential.

Mandatory Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or equivalent

• Demonstrated initiative and good judgement
• Ability to build positive relations with staff and contribute to a team environment
• Capable of working alone and with minimum supervision
• Organize work and adjust daily routine as conditions require
• Capable of performing routine and repetitive tasks daily
• Working knowledge of chemicals/procedures used by caretaking staff

Fitness And Abilities

• Able to stand or walk for extended periods
• Able to lift and carry up to 22 kg independently
• Able to work in a highly active physical environment
• Able to work with a variety of chemicals

Conditions of Employment

• A satisfactory police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment
