Permanent Full-Time

Location: Palliser Education Centre

Start Date: As soon as possible

Schedule: 40 hour/week Monday – Friday

Compensation: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour (based on experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable and self‑motivated Maintenance Labourer. This position involves regular maintenance of schools, snow removal, managing work orders, and other duties as assigned. This position is located out of the Palliser Education Center (PEC) in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Key Responsibilities Repairs/Construction and Schools Upkeep
  • Complete daily work orders as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Repair all furniture in schools.
  • Repair/replace hardware.
  • Construct and install all tack boards required by schools.
  • Repair and/or erect chain link fencing.
  • Respond to intrusion and building alarms during and after normal working hours.
  • Install cabinetry constructed in‑house.
  • Maintain a clean shop area at PEC.
  • Repair underground sprinklers when required.
  • Snow removal when required.
  • Perform general maintenance duties in schools (windows, wall repair, gutters, fascia, minor roof repairs, minor plumbing).
  • Support summer grounds crew when required.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel when required.
Delivery & Courier Duties
  • Transport furniture and any educational material from school to school.
  • Transport risers to schools from the maintenance shop as required.
  • Make emergency deliveries of supplies and materials.
  • Fill in when required for courier duties.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years experience working in maintenance or related environments preferred.
  • Previous experience with building maintenance, carpentry, mechanics and welding.
  • Strong time management, prioritization, multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to adapt and manage change.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, listening and written communication skills combined with the ability to speak with confidence.
  • Strong conflict management skills.
  • Ability and success in building productive relationships with co‑workers, staff and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Professionalism, tact, courtesy and diplomacy skills.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and discretionary matters and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Use of appropriate judgement in a framework of generally established methods, protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.
Working Conditions
  • Use of carpentry and maintenance tools required.
  • PPE and safety training provided as needed.
Education/Licences/Certificates
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record (abstract may be requested).

  • Government issued  (must be in current legal name) – valid driver's license, valid passport or Nexus card.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record (abstract may be requested).
