Safety Trainer

About the role

The Safety Trainer will be responsible to facilitate and deliver training for the onsite teams and serve as an SME for other departments, as well as support training activities. This includes, but is not limited to, creating and updating training manuals for each training program, developing, maintaining and training on SOPs, JSAs, one‑point lessons, and training tracking matrices. The Safety Trainer will work with Supervisors to observe employee training, document training performance for each trainee, and serve as the onsite trainer for all personnel at the Coaldale site who require training in 1st Aid, PIVs (Forklifts and Skid Steer), Scissor/Boom Lifts, and Personal Fall Protection.

The role also involves maintaining training records and documentation related to these courses and associated certifications.

• Efficiently administer and schedule on‑the‑job training.
• Manage all documentation related to relevant and required training for employees.
• Develop, communicate and coordinate training plans with supervisors, adjusting plans when necessary.
• Keep supervisors informed of all conditions affecting the training process.
• Create and maintain training materials, including manuals, SOPs, JSAs, one‑point lessons, checklists, tests, and reviews.
• Facilitate, schedule, and document vendor training as needed.
• Evaluate the progress of training and analyze the effectiveness of training procedures and materials.
• Treat people with respect, follow up on commitments, and uphold organizational values.
• Identify and develop innovative solutions to improve the training process.
• Maintain confidentiality of trainees, trainers, supervisors, and managers.
• Speak clearly to large groups and deliver effective training.
• Write clearly and informatively, reading and interpreting written information.
• Use time efficiently by prioritizing and planning required work activities.
• Communicate problems or changes in the working environment to appropriate personnel.
• Understand and adhere to the concepts and techniques of the quality process.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Must be able to read and comprehend complex technical instructions, correspondence, and memos such as safety rules, operating instructions, and technical operation and procedure manuals. Must write clear, concise correspondence and routine reports. Effectively present and train on maintenance topics for one‑on‑one and group situations.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, percentages and interpret bar graphs.

Apply a reasonable person understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; solve problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.

Associated diploma, degree and/or technical certification with prior leadership experience is preferred. Twelve months related experience and/or a combination of college or technical courses and experience. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with a passing score on the mechanical job skills test. Demonstrated training experience is an asset (e.g., Train the Trainer or other training certifications).

Attends work consistently and on time. Able to multitask, manage competing demands, and adapt to changes in the work environment. Intermediate computer skills and experience with SAP is an asset. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment varies between normal and loud.

Pay range from $34.57 (minimum) to $35.26 (maximum)
