Operations Manager

Reports to:

Vice President, Operations & Customer Success

Schedule:

Full Time, Monday-Friday

Position Summary

The Operations Manager is the senior leader accountable for the overall performance of the manufacturing plant. Leading through a team, this role owns plant-wide results: safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people. The Operations Manager sets the operational strategy, builds leadership capability across the supervisory team, drives continuous improvement, and ensures the facility has the capacity, equipment, and talent to support the company's growth.

At Forma Steel, our Core Values are at the heart of everything we do. To be successful in this role, the ideal Candidate will:

  • Be Passionate, Positive & Productive
  • Be Respectful, Helpful & Caring
  • Be Responsible & Reliable
  • Be Solution-Focused
  • Do The Right Thing
Key Responsibilities
  • Own overall facility performance against safety, quality, on-time delivery, productivity, and cost targets
  • Develop and execute the annual operations plan, including capacity planning, staffing plans, and capital investment priorities
  • Translate company growth objectives into operational strategy — new product capability, throughput expansion, and facility improvements
  • Lead, coach, and develop Production Supervisors and front-line teams
  • Build a strong leadership bench: succession planning, structured development, and clear accountability at every level
  • Set expectations and operating cadence — daily management, tiered meetings, KPI reviews — so problems surface and get solved at the right level
  • Shape a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all shifts
  • Own the operations budget, including labour, overhead, maintenance, and scrap/rework costs
  • Establish and monitor plant KPIs (OEE, throughput, yield, labour efficiency, on-time delivery, cost per unit) and drive corrective action where performance lags
  • Champion lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programs across the facility (5S, changeover reduction, waste elimination, value stream improvements)
  • Ensure full compliance with OH&S regulations, WHMIS, environmental requirements, and company policies
  • Review incident trends and ensure investigations drive systemic prevention, not just symptom fixes
  • Ensure a robust preventive and predictive maintenance program that protects equipment uptime across roll formers, folders, slitters, and material handling equipment
  • Oversee shipping/logistics operations to ensure damage-free, on-time delivery performance
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, including 3+ years managing multi-level teams in a facility of comparable scale (75+ employees)
  • Proven track record of owning plant-level P&L or operations budgets and delivering measurable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Strong background in metal manufacturing — sheet metal, roll forming, steel building products, or similar high-mix/custom-order environments strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success implementing lean/continuous improvement programs at a facility level
  • Strong financial acumen: budgeting, cost analysis, KPI management
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and change-management skills
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and data-driven management
Why Join Forma Steel?
  • Competitive wage with regular reviews.
  • Opportunity for advancement.
  • Full benefit package & RRSP program.
  • Amazing culture and employee engagement.
