Position Title: Coordinator Health & Safety Coaldale
Position Type: Temporary - Full-Time
Grade: Grade 04
Location: Coaldale, AB
Role OverviewThe Health and Safety Coordinator will assist in the development and execution of safety and security protocols for the plant, focusing on continuous improvement of safety policies and procedures, injury prevention, safety management, plant security, crisis management, and compliance with all applicable federal, provincial, and state safety regulations. This is an 18‑month maternity leave contract.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure adherence to all relevant federal, state, provincial, municipal, and company safety rules and regulations.
- Conduct regular Key Elements of Safety (KES) inspections of equipment and facilities and serve as a resource for employee safety committees.
- Conduct safety audits, support site leadership in closing audit findings and other assessment findings within the required timeframe.
- Analyze safety interaction data, incident, and injury trends to identify training, behavioral, or operational improvement opportunities.
- Assist supervisors in investigating workplace incidents and devise action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Audit the contractor management program to ensure contractors’ safety training, safe work plans, insurance requirements, and permits are met.
- Maintain the McCain safety program and any local required program to ensure compliance with company, regulatory, and customer food safety requirements.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports to track safety and operational performance.
- Conduct training on health and safety for management and staff.
- Work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision, and be available for shifts across all teams.
- Be available to receive calls outside regular hours in the event of an accident or severe injury.
This position is based in a regulated manufacturing environment and requires strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Employees must consistently follow all GMP, safety, and hygiene requirements, including restrictions on jewelry, personal items, and attire while on the production floor.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of qualification and experience.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Experience developing and facilitating training programs and protocols.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Professional safety certification is desirable.
- $58,800.00 – $78,500.00 CAD annual base salary (equivalent), paid in alignment to contract term.
