DutiesThe incumbent will assist and support basic laboratory experiments under supervision. They will work toward the production of doubled haploid (DH) plants in various plant species using established technologies. Responsibilities include preparing culture media and reagents, transferring and culturing plant materials with aseptic techniques, following established DH production procedures, testing new protocols as directed by the supervisor, rearing, monitoring, and caring for donor plants in growth facilities, collecting and storing spikes of donor material at the appropriate stage and processing them for culture, performing plant and culture treatments, maintaining accurate records, caring for and maintaining equipment and facilities, maintaining a safe work environment, and contributing to the development of improved DH methods and related knowledge.
The incumbent may also show students how to perform tasks, provide technical support to projects, recognize and report equipment malfunctions, and generate and maintain laboratory supply inventory. They will manage supplies and dispose of waste appropriately, sustaining physically demanding work in the laboratory.

Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience. - Experience
:- Providing technical support in a research or laboratory environment.
- Preparing samples and performing analyses in a laboratory setting.
- Maintaining records of experimental protocols and data files.
- Working with aseptic techniques.
- Working in tissue culture.
- Knowledge
:- Basic biology, plant science and plant tissue culture.
- Basic analytical laboratory procedures.
- Doubled haploid (DH) principles and laboratory procedures.
- Seed and plant health.

Use scientific instruments and techniques from protocols, make observations, collect and record data accurately, and summarize results.
- Reliability security clearance.
- Willingness to work in laboratory and greenhouse/phytotron for extended periods.
- Willingness to work overtime including evenings and weekends.
- Control of known allergies with personal protective equipment or medication.
English essential. Candidates may participate in the selection process in the official language of their choice.
PreferencePreference will be given to veterans first, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Positions located in Nunavut or Yukon have additional preference rules.
