Job Brief
The Galt Museum & Archives invites applications for casual Museum Attendants (non-permanent term; approximately 16 weeks; up to 5 positions).
Schedule and Hours- 37.5 hours per week from May 25 to September 5
- Weekends only, from September 11-30
- Start dates dependent on provincial COVID restrictions regarding museum re-openings
- Interpreting and guiding tours through permanent and temporary exhibitions and interpretive spaces.
- Responding to public inquiries, answering phones, and providing exhibition and collections information.
- Assisting facility rental clients to ensure events run smoothly, including set‑up and dismantling of event areas.
- Fort Whoop‑Up animal coordination, gardening, and light cooking (per established regulations).
- Assisting programmers with community and school engagement programs, as required.
- Selling merchandise, counting inventory, and cash balancing.
- Performing daily/weekly janitorial duties for the Fort (Interpretive Centre/Barracks).
- Performing hourly/daily COVID cleaning.
- Attending staff meetings and training as required.
- Excellent customer relationship skills.
- Post-secondary education and experience in human history and/or museum visitor services, tourism, public relations, or communication arts. Knowledge of regional history is an asset.
- Retail and sales experience, plus knowledge of POS systems is desirable.
- Ability to move chairs and tables and work with audio/visual equipment.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate required; valid class 5 Operator’s License required.
- Fluency with Blackfoot and other languages is an asset.
- Must have attended post-secondary school in the January‑April 2021 semester and be planning to return in the fall of 2021.
Wage: $26.50 per hour
Hours:
0 to 37.5 hours per week. Work schedule varies; includes evenings & weekends.
- Successful completion of a criminal records check with the Lethbridge Police Service.
