Overview

The City of Lethbridge Public Operations Transportation team is accepting applications for multiplewinter seasonal term positions of Machine Operator III – Skid Steer Loader
.The Machine Operator III supports winter snow and ice control operations, including theclearing and maintenance of pathways, crosswalks, accessibility routes andother Transportation Operations areas.

Job Posting

STATUS: Seasonal,up to 6 months

HOURS OF WORK: 0 – 40 hours per week

PAYRATE: $30.14 per hour

In this role, you will:

  • Safelyand proficiently operate a skid steer loader, trucks up to 3-ton and other assigned equipment.
  • Perform snow and ice control on pathways, bike lanes, crosswalks, accessibility routesand other assigned areas.
  • Perform manual labour associated with winter maintenance activities.
  • Perform routine inspections, minor servicing and maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Worksafely around pedestrians, vehicles, infrastructure and other equipment.
  • Perform other Transportation Operations-related duties as required.

What You Bring to the Table:

Qualifications&

Experience:

  • Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Applicants must have a valid class 5 license.
  • Q endorsement (airbrake) is preferred.
  • Experience safely operating skid steer loadersand other related equipment.
  • Working knowledge of practices, methods,materials and hand tools used in snow and ice control and winter operations.
  • Ability to perform minor equipment maintenance to support safe and efficient operation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Physical ability to perform heavy manual labourfor extended periods in varying winter weather conditions.
  • Previous winter operations experience is preferred.
  • The successful applicant must have the abilityto work shift work.

Depending on the circumstances of your current position, at the time an offer of employment is provided, you may be responsible for providing a copy of a five-year CommercialOR Non-Commercial Driver’s Abstract. The Driver’s Abstract is to be obtained within
30 calendar days of the date of offer and applicants will be responsible forthe cost of obtaining the Abstract. If you do not submit an Abstract, orthe Abstract shows 6 or more demerits or includes any of the unacceptabledriving items listed below, your offer of employment may be rescinded. The Cityof Lethbridge reserves the right to determine what is a satisfactory Driver’sAbstract.

  • A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence.
  • An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City.
  • Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial drivingconviction including:
    • a. Impaired Driving related offence
    • b. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
    • c. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
    • d. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
    • e. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
    • f. Careless Driving
