Position: Para educator 1:1-Lower Bucks County

Overview

Para educator for 1:1 support in Lower Bucks County ). Join a collaborative environment with benefits options, PSERS pension, and a flexible school calendar. Positions are available in various Bucks County locations/school districts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one tutoring where scheduled, ensuring the student receives instruction as applicable.
  • Assist with classroom management and organize instructional and related materials.
  • Act as a liaison in communicating with the teacher and IU/district staff regarding ongoing needs of students.
  • Provide support across educational settings; escort and supervise students to various locations.
  • Assist students to use equipment and augmentative communication devices.
  • Assist a student to ambulate, position, and transfer.
  • Support students in range of motion and other exercises.
  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as feeding, grooming, bathing, toileting, diapering, etc.
  • Monitor designated health problems or medical conditions (e.g., seizure precautions or extreme lethargy).
  • Accompany students on school bus or other transport.
  • Cue, redirect or monitor ADL tasks when cognitive impairment affects task performance.
  • Observe/monitor and intervene to assist with completion of ADL tasks.
  • Cue students to pay attention, participate, and complete tasks.
  • Participate in implementation of each student s IEP (Individualized Education Plan) and CERs (if applicable).
  • Assist with data collection of student performance.
  • May be trained, when qualified, to occasionally transport students.
  • Follow individualized support plans as part of a student’s educational program (e.g., behavior, communication, health, transportation) and track information about each student’s needs, strengths, gains, and problem areas.
  • Assist with setting up the educational environment and preparing materials for instruction.

Work Environment:
Work environment is described as typical for this role; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable performance of essential functions. Noise level is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:
Regularly sit and use hands; frequently walk; reach with hands/arms; talk/hear. May stand for long periods; may climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustments.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Full-time, 185-day calendar position. Mon-Fri; hours depend on assignment and location; typical day is 7.5 hours. Occasional evenings and/or weekends may be required.

Travel:
Travel or transport may be required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Level of Degree:
    Meet the Bucks IU “Highly Qualified” Para educator designation by one of the following:
    Associate or Bachelor Degree; at least 48 college/university credits; or a high school diploma/equivalency with a local assessment. A Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators from the Pennsylvania Department of Education meets the requirement when 48 credits or a degree are not present.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
  • Processing software, email, sending attachments and tracking billing.
  • CPR & First Aid Certification Required
  • Crisis Prevention Institute Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training Required
  • Work Authorization/Security Clearance:
    Citizenship or work authorization to work in the United States required.
