KS1 Teaching Assistant required for immediate start.

Western Road is an innovative and popular school with a passionate belief in the development of the whole child. We are ambitious for our children and embrace learning with enthusiasm, determination and confidence.

We are seeking a compassionate, caring and (ideally) experienced Teaching Assistant. The role will be full-time, 36 hours per week working term-time only (paid pro rata).

We are seeking a compassionate, caring, creative and skilled Teaching Assistant to join our Key Stage 1 team. The successful candidate will support children’s learning within the classroom environment and in our outdoor area where we provide exciting enrichment opportunities through play. The candidate will be passionate about contributing to the planning and organisation of high-quality indoor and outdoor provision, and deliver targeted interventions to support pupils’ academic, emotional, social and communication needs.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about nurturing young learners and helping every child feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support teaching and learning across Key Stage 1, including through play-based and child-centred approaches.
  • Create and maintain engaging learning provision, particularly within the outdoor learning environment.
  • Work with individual pupils and small groups to promote confidence, independence and positive behaviour.
  • Support pupils with social, emotional and communication needs.
  • Deliver and support interventions, including:
  • Nurture-based support
  • Speech and language programmes
  • Gross and Fine Motor interventions
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCo and wider staff to observe, record and feedback on pupils’ development where appropriate.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience working in Key Stage 1 or Early Years.
  • A strong understanding of learning through play.
  • Experience creating and supporting outdoor learning provision.
  • Experience delivering or supporting interventions.
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
We

Offer:
  • A supportive and welcoming school community.
  • Opportunities for professional development and training, including the possibility of training leading woodwork in outdoor provision.
  • A positive, inclusive and child-centred learning environment

A tour of the school can be requested as part of the interview process. Visits to the school are also welcome so that you can see our great school in action – please telephone or email head to book an appointment.

The school is committed to recruiting with care; safe-guarding and promoting the welfare of children and all staff share this commitment.

Interviews will take place either on the morning of Wednesday, 25th or Thursday, 26th February 2026.

This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018.

The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2018 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision. Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2018 Regulations.

If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2018 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.
