Location: Lewes

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Associate Psychologist to join our Mental Health team at HMP Lewes, a category B Prison located in Sussex.

This is a brand new role, and is a fantastic opportunity to work in an ever-changing, challenging environment, which is hugely rewarding!

Within this role you will support and enhance the psychological care of patients, providing psychological assessments and low to medium intensity psychological interventions.

Hours

This is a part time role for 15 hours per week. 7.5 hours x 2 days per week (Mon, Thurs, and/or Fri).

Salary

This position is part time, you’ll receive an annual salary up to £33,510 per annum (full‑time equivalent) – depending on experience. (This will be pro rata for the 15 hours up to £13,404).

Main duties of the job
  • Identify patients who may benefit from psychological intervention, following mental health triages and in discussion with the multi‑disciplinary team and, where demand exceeds capacity, prioritise according to clinical need, risk presentation and release planning in line with agreed service policy and under the guidance of the registered psychologist/clinical lead.
  • Provide comprehensive psychological assessment, including risk assessment, and develop psychological formulations to support patients and other members of the MDT in making sense of patients' difficulties in line with agreed guidance from the registered psychologist.
  • Identify and deliver appropriate individual and group interventions to patients in line with the Psychological & Talking Therapies Service (PTTS) pathways and in line with agreed guidance from the registered psychologist.
  • To monitor and evaluate psychological interventions using appropriate measures as per PTTS guidelines.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology (entitlement to graduate basis for chartered membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society or MSc in Forensic/Health)
  • Evidence of foundation training in evidence‑based psychological frameworks (i.e. CFT, CBT, DBT, ACT)
  • Knowledge of evidence‑based psychological therapies relevant to managing mental health distress
  • Experience working with patients in either forensic or secure environment.
