Special Education Specialist

Are you a qualified BSL Learning Support Assistant (Level 4 minimum) seeking a school-based role where inclusive communication and pupil support are a genuine priority?

A welcoming primary school in Lewisham, South East London is looking to appoint a BSL Learning Support Assistant to support deaf and hearing-impaired pupils within a supportive and well-structured setting.

The school provides targeted support for pupils with hearing impairments and additional needs, ensuring all children can access the curriculum confidently. Staff work closely together, behaviour is calm and consistent, and specialist support is well embedded across the school.

• A clear induction and access to regular CPD.
• Ongoing guidance from SEN staff and senior leaders.
• A positive and inclusive working environment.
• Consistent behaviour expectations across the primary phase.
• The possibility of contract extensions for strong practitioners.

• Delivering specialist BSL support to pupils across the primary age range.
• Supporting children on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
• Working alongside class teachers and SEN staff to adapt learning materials.
• Supporting pupils’ communication, confidence and social development.
• Helping to ensure classrooms remain accessible and inclusive.
• A recognised BSL Level 4 qualification (minimum).
• Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired children in a school or child-centred setting.
• A calm, patient and proactive approach.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A genuine commitment to inclusive education.
