About the Role
We are looking for a committed and caring Teaching Assistant to join mainstream primary schools in Lewisham. You will provide 1:1 and small group support to children with additional needs, including ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADHD, and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs).
This role offers a chance to make a real difference by supporting children's learning, social development, and emotional wellbeing within the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils with SEN to help them access the curriculum
Assist the class teacher with planning and delivering learning activities
Support pupils with ASD, ADHD, and SEMH needs in managing behaviour and developing social skills
Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and follow agreed behaviour strategies
Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence in learning
Monitor progress and provide feedback to the teacher and SENCO
Promote positive behaviour and inclusion in the classroom
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience supporting children with SEN, especially ASD, ADHD, or SEMH
Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach
Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
Knowledge of positive behaviour strategies and classroom management
A passion for helping children succeed academically and socially
Desirable (but not essential):
Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE, Level 2/3 TA, Education or Childcare)
Experience in mainstream or SEN schools
Training in behaviour management, safeguarding, or Team Teach
