Job Title: Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support (Primary)
Location: Lewisham, London
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: ASAP (or specify)
We are looking for a committed and caring Teaching Assistant to join mainstream primary schools in Lewisham. You will provide 1:1 and small group support to children with additional needs, including ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADHD, and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs).
This role offers a chance to make a real difference by supporting children's learning, social development, and emotional wellbeing within the classroom.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils with SEN to help them access the curriculum
- Assist the class teacher with planning and delivering learning activities
- Support pupils with ASD, ADHD, and SEMH needs in managing behaviour and developing social skills
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and follow agreed behaviour strategies
- Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence in learning
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to the teacher and SENCO
- Promote positive behaviour and inclusion in the classroom
- Experience supporting children with SEN, especially ASD, ADHD, or SEMH
- Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Knowledge of positive behaviour strategies and classroom management
- A passion for helping children succeed academically and socially
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE, Level 2/3 TA, Education or Childcare)
- Experience in mainstream or SEN schools
- Training in behaviour management, safeguarding, or Team Teach
- Full-time, long-term placement in supportive primary schools
