Job Overview
Axcis is delighted to recruit a full-time Teaching Assistant for its dedicated SEND secondary school in the SE6 area, catering for students with PMLD and ASD. Working Monday–Friday, 8:30 am–3:30 pm, the role supports students with a range of additional needs—including ASD, challenging behaviour, and PMLD—and also involves personal care tasks such as feeding and toileting.
Role and Responsibilities- Providing one-to-one and small-group support for students with varying learning and physical needs.
- Assisting with personal care and supporting students’ physical wellbeing throughout the day.
- Helping to implement individual learning plans under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO.
- Encouraging communication, independence and engagement through creative and supportive strategies.
- Promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and respected.
- Calm, patient and understanding, with a genuine passion for working with young people who have additional needs.
- Resilient and confident in managing challenging or confrontational situations professionally and empathetically.
- Resourceful and proactive, able to adapt to the needs of individual students.
- A team player who communicates well and works collaboratively with teachers, therapists and support staff.
- Comfortable working both individually and with small groups to promote engagement and learning.
