Position SummaryThe role of the Volunteer Coordinator Assistant supports the Volunteer Program by assisting with volunteer outreach, coordination, scheduling, and database management. This role works closely with the Director of People Talent + Compliance and plays an important part in ensuring volunteers feel informed, supported, and connected to the Dempsey Center.
This position is ideal for someone who is reliable, organized, and comfortable using technology, and who enjoys working behind the scenes to help a nonprofit operate smoothly.
Key aspects of the role include- Assist with volunteer outreach, communication, and follow-up.
- Use technology platforms (e.g., Bloomerang volunteer software, email, scheduling tools) to track volunteer engagement and hours.
- Attend occasional Dempsey Center programs, meetings, and events as needed.
- Provide general administrative and organizational support related to volunteer coordination.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable using technology, including email, databases, spreadsheets, and virtual meeting tools.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to follow through on commitments
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Professional, courteous, and respectful when interacting with volunteers, staff, and community members
- Compassionate, personable, and aligned with the Dempsey Center mission and values
- Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain appropriate boundaries, and ask for help when needed.
- Experience with volunteer coordination, administrative support, or nonprofit work preferred but not required
- Ability to sit, stand or walk for duration of shift
- Maintains professional behavior, dress and appearance at all times while volunteering.
- Must use discretion and protect the confidentiality of all Dempsey Center clients.; HIPAA-specific training will be provided.
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees, Board members, donors, prospects, volunteers, consultants, advisors, and members of the community.
