Wildlife (Habitat) Technician - Craig Mountain WMA - Housing Provided

Location: Lewiston, Idaho

Job Summary

We are seeking Wildlife Technician positions for the Clearwater Region’s Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area. The positions are temporary, seasonal, and available for either 8‑month (benefitted) or 3‑month (non‑benefitted) terms. Responsibilities include habitat development, weeding, plant surveys, facility maintenance, and related tasks.

Key Dates
  • Benefitted 8‑month Technician:
    March through November
  • Non‑benefitted 3‑month Technician:
    May through August
Compensation

Hourly rate: $18.61 per hour. Benefitted positions include medical, vision, and dental insurance, state retirement (PERSI), vacation and sick leave, and paid holidays.

Housing

Housing is available for the employee only. Pets are not allowed.

Responsibilities
  • Work as a team with 3‑6 other technicians to conduct noxious weed control, maintain fence lines, and complete plant surveys and identification.
  • Operate and maintain ATVs, UTVs, 4WD trucks, tractors, chainsaws, trimmers, augers, and power tools.
  • Prepare, handle, and apply chemicals with spray equipment; training will be provided.
  • Carry out data collection, facility maintenance, and barbed‑wire fence repair/removal.
  • Plow and plant fields with tractors and UTVs, monitor for noxious weeds.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 65 lbs, hiking over 8 miles of rough terrain, and working in extreme weather conditions.
  • Participate in weekly overnight work trips to various duty stations throughout the season.
Qualifications
  • Some knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements.
  • Experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing biological data.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience operating and performing maintenance on tractors, four‑wheel‑drive trucks, off‑road vehicles, and using hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of plant identification and herbicide use for noxious weed control.
  • Experience with fence building and repair is a plus.
  • Strong work ethic, teamwork, self‑motivation, and willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact professionally with the public.
  • Willingness to obtain an apprentice applicator’s license (training provided).
