SUMMARY: Assists Special Education Teacher in delivery of educational services indicated in students Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Positive Behavioral Support Plan (PBSP) within RISE/Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools.
Salary Range: $18.91 - $26.00

- Able to facilitate 1:1, 1:2 and small group instruction while meeting the needs of complex learners.
- Assist with setup of classroom, individual student area, and prepares materials for specialized instruction.
- Collect relevant data and data entry.
- Assist in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current as requested.
- Operates standard school equipment such as computer, laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
- Responsible for following day-to-day schedule of students.
- The nature of 1:1 and other direct services in RISE/DT requires constant attention. This includes following de-escalation strategies, adhering to PBSP and direction from Special Education Teacher, BCBA/Clinician, and maintaining appropriate conduct and safety.
- Facilitate 1:1, 1:2 and small group instruction throughout the day, including academic instruction and transitions (lunch, recess, hallways, breaks, transportation).
- Follow IEP and PBSP, implement de-escalation strategies, and maintain data documentation as required.
- Teamwork is imperative; maintain professional communication to facilitate a safe and structured environment for students and staff.
- Written communication: legible, professional, and in the best interest of students.
- Verbal communication: provide and receive feedback to improve skills and job knowledge; follow directions from Special Education Teacher, BCBA, Clinician, and school administration.
- Communicate with Ed. Techs appropriately for the environment and audience.
- EDUCATION AND/OR
EXPERIENCE:
Three years postsecondary education and/or 90 credit hours of approved study in a related area. For vocational education, three years of work experience in the field. This is essential for Education Technician III certification required by Maine DOE and for School Based Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) certification. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend technical educational instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in 1:1, 1:2 and small group settings. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic, compute mean, rate, ratio, percent, and create simple graphs as needed. - Reasoning Ability: Follow complex educational and behavioral treatment plans; find solutions within applicable laws and methodologies (ABA, QBS, Safety Care).

Skills and Abilities:
Prior work in child care or education preferred; ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community; strong written and oral communication; commitment to inclusion of RISE students in General Education settings.
