Overview

Lewiston High School is seeking an Air Force JROTC Aerospace Science Instructor to supervise and teach within the Junior ROTC program, in support of leadership education and military science curriculum.

Job Description

In the context of Air Force Junior ROTC program operations, the ASI is supervised by the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI). The ASI is responsible for the Leadership Education portion of the curriculum, including drill and ceremonies, principles of leadership and management, and communication skills. They assist the SASI in teaching Aerospace Science, particularly areas where they have special competence due to experience and training.

They may give or grade tests, provide career and performance counseling, and supervise cadet corps activities. They are involved in enrollment and co-curricular activities. Typically, ASIs are appointed Military Property Custodians and are responsible for uniforms and equipment and other administrative matters. They wear the Air Force uniform while performing Air Force Junior ROTC duties. The instructors, although not active duty, manage a military-type unit and maintain a chain of command with the SASI to achieve unit goals.

Salary Range: $41,286.41 - $77,875.35

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches district-approved curriculum.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and communicates objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree;
    Valid Teaching Certificate and endorsements.
  • Experience:

    Desirable experience in supply, administration, drill and ceremonies, classroom teaching, and working with youth groups.
  • Special prerequisites for AFJROTC ASI applicants:
    Air Force NCOs in grades TSgt through CMSgt may apply if they meet prerequisites including military bearing and character standards; retirement eligibility and other DoD guidelines may apply as described in the original posting.
  • Other:
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general material; ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally; ability to work with students and parents; ability to apply knowledge of current instructional research and theory.
